International Overdose Awareness Day
Aug 31, 2024
In 2023 8,049 lives were lost to drug poisonings in Canada. The toxic drug supply is deadlier in Canada than anywhere else in the world, besides the US. By the end of every day, on average, it will claim 22 more lives. We can prevent drug-related deaths. We can do this by not treating people with addiction challenges like criminals, and properly funding a full spectrum of supports. Those supports range from helping prevent addiction and keeping people safe and alive when they do use substances, to those helping treat addictions and supporting long-term recovery.
