Cycling is a simple, fun and easy way to achieve your weekly exercise plan. It is currently recommended that each Canadian adult accumulate 150 minutes of aerobic physical activity in a week. What better way to build your physical fitness than throwing on your shoes and a helmet and jumping on a bike! Spin the Lakes is a great way to challenge yourself in getting back into cycling (and maybe even getting a few family members to join in as well).
With the ability to accumulate your mileage over the course of May, challenge yourself by registering in the 149 km distance. Hypothetically, let’s presume you cycle, on average, at 20 km per hour. The total distance will take about 7.5 hours to complete. Some of our keen participants will complete this in a day, however, with the ability to break the event down over the course of the month of May, there are actually 4 weeks to achieve this goal. Making this a little more tangible means completion of only four 30 minute bike rides a week to conquer the 149km distance (while successfully completing the national physical fitness guidelines).
Although the distances of Spin the Lakes may seem daunting to some, being able to accumulate kilometers over the course of May makes even the longest distance tangible for most. Get out there and crank your pedals – Spin the Lakes is achievable for all!
