Addictions Services

Women’s Empowerment

Women’s Empowerment is a closed group for women with substance use and/or gambling issues that are looking for support in a safe and supportive environment. Some of the topics covered include: women in recovery, stages of change, self care/esteem, strengths and goals.

Relapse Prevention

Relapse Prevention is a group that is for those who have worked through the stages of change and are now wanting to maintain their abstinence from substance use and/or gambling with the support of others. Various issues related to relapse and maintaining abstinence are discussed each week.

Concurrent Disorders (CD)

CD is an open-ended group that supports individuals with co-occurring substance use/gambling and mental health issues, through a psycho-educational treatment focus. Topics related to addictions and mental health issues are covered each week.

Counselling, Psychotherapy & Education Service

Group Counselling such as psycho-educational, treatment and facilitated self-help groups.

Depression/Anxiety

The group is intended to provide support for adults who struggle with symptoms of anxiety and / or depression. This is a pychoeducation group. Information is provided about these common mental health struggles, as well some skills are explored and practiced to help group members manage and improve their mood. The 8 sessions are built around the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, a well recognized, psychotherapeutic intervention for both depression and anxiety. The two primary goals of the group are 1) psycho-education 2) peer support.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills

This is a specialized skills-based group that is designed to help participants cope with distress and emotional regulation struggles. The program runs for 16 weeks. Following a DBT model, the program is divided into 4 modules: a) Core Mindfulness, b) Interpersonal Effectiveness, c) Emotional Regulation and d) Distress Tolerance.  This skills group is intended to provide people who struggle with emotional dysregulation some skills to 1) better manage distressing emotions 2) improve the quality of important relationships in their lives and 3) better manage and reduce frequency of crisis situations. The sessions are built around the principles of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, a well-recognized, psychotherapeutic intervention for individuals with mood regulation struggles

Education

Education is a three-session program that covers issues on substance use, coping skills, stress management and creating decisional balances to make healthier choices, among other topics. The three sessions are offered once weekly over a three-week period and will offer a certificate of completion.

Family Program

The Family Program is designed for any person concerned about someone else’s (e.g. family member, friend) substance use/gambling issue(s). Some of the topics covered may include setting healthy boundaries, communication, enabling and family dynamics.
